InterVarsity is Uniting the South Valley

InterVarsity Legacy in the South Valley:
In the 1957 Bakersfield College yearbook, there is a picture of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship movement and its faculty advisor. We do not have any more information about those early years, but InterVarsity thrived here in the valley in the 80's and 90's. Chris Nichols, Ken Harlander and Kevin Smith led flourishing movements at Bakersfield College, Taft College and CSU Bakersfield in the 80's.

In 1995 Bob & Kendra Green moved to Bakersfield joining Lance & Tracy Mouser. Ministry continued steadily and faithfully under their leadership and that of subsequent staff — Joseph Litto, Adam & Tina Loveridge, Amos & Emily Mbong, Jill Vande Zande and others.

In 2017, Paul Benthin moved to Bakersfield, to help breathe new life into the ministries. InterVarsity is now Uniting the South Valley! Paul and his team are starting Bible studies all across the valley. It is a joy to see God infuse old and new places with his Spirit! As alumni, we are all a part of the story and can continue to help bring new generations of college students to Christ!

InterVarsity is Expanding and we need your help:
In 2017 we started with 1 Bible study at Bakersfield College. Now we have Bible studies at Bakersfield College, Bakersfield College Delano, CSU Bakersfield, Taft College and College of the Sequoias.

We have also started Speciality Ministries for Pre-Nursing, Nursing students and Athletes.

VISION: Our vision is to keep expanding and start Specialty Bible studies for Engineering, Art, Education, Fire Cadets, Automotive, Dental Hygienists and are looking for volunteers in these fields to help us!

What they’re doing and why? 

Travis Boos
InterVarsity Athletes Volunteer

Travis is a proud CSU Bakersfield graduate whose life was transformed through InterVarsity while he was a student leader there. Now a high school Math teacher, he looks to give back to the ministry he believes in! His passion is to share the Good News and play Sunday baseball!

Kendra Green
Prayer and Alumni Coordinator

Kendra was very involved with InterVarsity at Fresno State during the 80’s. She and her husband Bob Green moved to San Luis Obispo and helped lead the InterVarsity movements at Cal Poly, Cuesta and Hancock. They moved to Bakersfield in 1994 where they raised their 3 daughters in a house that was often full of InterVarsity staff and students. Kendra and Bob have worked with students at BC and CSUB and regional staff for the last 25 years. Kendra loves directing Small Group Ministry at First Presbyterian Church downtown and is passionate about gathering InterVarsity Alumni and friends for the cause of expanding the kingdom through students in the South Valley!

Rachel Brown:
InterVarsity Nursing Volunteer

Rachel is a registered nursing graduate from Bakersfield College! She helped start BC’s first InterVarsity Nursing group as a student! Now she works full time in the ED and leads one of the nursing bible studies! Rachel loves traveling and spending time with her 2 fur babies! 😃
